Painting the Glory of God” – A collection of paintings in response to Psalms of David
Painter Gay Cox’s Psalms will be the subject of ARTChurch again this month. This work has been installed since June and we will spend another service digging deeply into the beauty and imagery of Ms. Cox’s artistry.
I infuse my work with an active, vibrant, sensuous love of existence. The physical solidity of all true spirituality is at the heart of all my work. I find color particularly delicious and prefer to capture it “in motion.”
I am inspired by ancient icons and their mandate to “paint the glory of God” and by the movement and evocative aspects of art and life on the heroic scale, even when focusing on minutiae.
My journey has traversed through landscape, figure, face and abstraction; but always the form emerges, triumphant and alive.
My relationship with God is at the heart of all my work, informing and vitalizing the subject and its’ emergence. To evoke this interconnectedness I create several pieces around a central theme such as Creation, Woman, Transformations, Mystery, and Song: Inviting us deeper into the richness of life in God.
About ARTChurch: Inspired by the rich spirituality and deep themes inherent in art, ARTChurch looks at scripture and liturgy through the lens of the art installed in the Gallery at Sanctuary UCC. On the second Sunday of each month, we experience the Holy—and the holy in each other—through the images, colors, themes and creative energies of the installation, the artist’s perspective and that which is seen by the observer.
