ARTChurch with the art – Sunday, July 8, 2018 10:00 am
I infuse my work with an active, vibrant, sensuous love of existence. The physical solidity of all true spirituality is at the heart of all my work. I find color particularly delicious and prefer to capture it “in motion.”
I am inspired by ancient icons and their mandate to “paint the glory of God” and by the movement and evocative aspects of art and life on the heroic scale, even when focusing on minutiae.
My journey has traversed through landscape, figure, face and abstraction; but always the form emerges, triumphant and alive.
My relationship with God is at the heart of all my work, informing and vitalizing the subject and its’ emergence. To evoke this interconnectedness I create several pieces around a central theme such as Creation, Woman, Transformations, Mystery, and Song: Inviting us deeper into the richness of life in God.
Sanctuary’s vision is to be out – in the city – serving God’s people with love and care. Each 5th Sunday we will organize several service opportunities from which folk may choose to serve. These opportunities will always include:
- making sandwiches for the parishioners of Cambridge’s Outdoor Church at 458 High Street;
- systemic activism (ie: writing letters or making phone calls to engender change for justice);
- an inter-generational opportunity to help (beginning in the spring of 2017).

About ARTChurch: Inspired by the rich spirituality and deep themes inherent in art, ARTChurch looks at scripture and liturgy through the lens of the art installed in the Gallery at Sanctuary UCC. On the second Sunday of each month, we experience the Holy—and the holy in each other—through the images, colors, themes and creative energies of the installation, the artist’s perspective and that which is seen by the observer.
BYOB: Bring your own Beer, Wine or Soda to this month’s new art Installation.
Hear from the Artist(s) about their inspiration and process – and join the conversation about your own experience of their creativity.
