chairphotoJennifer Greer delivers…from aggressive to impressionistic… pushing boundaries… by blending jazz, funk and classical. For samples see her website: www.jennifergreer.com

Jennifer’s first album, “Jewel Machine” (2001) won the WRSI singer/songwriter competition. In 2005 she released “the Apiary,” which got rave reviews and won Best Adult Alternative CD 2005 from the Muse’s Muse, and Best unsigned pop artist from Verbicide Magazine in 2008. In 2009 she released “Fistful of Stars”, a sweeping showcase of 14 songs. She was a Finalist in the NewSong Mountain Stage competition in 2010 and 2012. Jennifer has played various venues across New England and New York and continues to grow her fan base. Her new CD “Hey Tide” charts the path of heartbreak to healing: grief, recovery and the emergence of hope; its also about the power of music to transform, with the moon and tide as a guide.

“Great art is born out of pain but in the case of Jennifer Greer, it’s almost unfathomable. During what must be the longest crying spell in history, she also wrote the songs that appear on her fourth album, the self-released ‘Hey Tide’. Joni Mitchell might have invented the pop confessional but Jennifer Greer has taken it to new heights.”

–Goldmine magazine

“Jennifer Greer proves queen of techniques on her engaging album Hey Tide. Featuring Greer’s honeyed voice and lively piano melodies, these tunes flow in a variety of currents, some subtle, some intense, all infused with her often spellbinding talent.”

–Billy Copeland

“Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, I grew up in a loving and supportive household surrounded by lots of wonderful music. Fast-forward many years, I am now recent Berklee graduate, and about to release my debut EP “Naked”.  Amongst many other things, I have set my sights on becoming the first Kenyan to win a Grammy. However, I believe that the mark of true success is joy and as a result, I want my life to represent two basic ideas: The first, is that not only is true happiness attainable, it is sustainable and the second is no matter who you are or where you come from, you can be, do or have ANYTHING you want.”

Susan Cattaneo | Music for the Soul Coffeehouse Series @ Sanctuary UCC
Apr 29 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Susan-Cattaneo-press-1-low-resSusan Cattaneo is not afraid of the dark. A powerful singer and sophisticated songwriter, Susan has seen the darkness in the corners and sings about it fearlessly. Following in the footsteps of Matraca Berg, Kim Richey, Lucinda Williams and Gretchen Peters, the well-respected Boston artist combines vivid storytelling with a modern songwriter’s spin. Call it New England Americana with a twang. Respectful of tradition, but not bound by it, Susan blends rock, folk and blues with a healthy dose of country.

RyanPic.2.smallRyan Alvanos is a poet by training, editor by trade, songwriter by passion, busker by calling, and whim-blown vagabond by good fortune. He plows the middle ground between Woody and Waits with songs that stroke your chin and get your itch like big nibs scratching coarse stock.

Rebecca Pronsky & Rich Bennett| Music for the Soul Coffeehouse Series @ Sanctuary UCC
Jun 24 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Rebecca Pronsky’s songs are gritty and dark, layered and dreamy, bravely disobeying the usual conventions of the Americana genre. She has been described as an artist whose “voice conveys the wisdom of experience over a wash of noirishly twangy guitars” (NPR) and a “jazzy-folk female Chris Isaak” (Creative Loafing).
