Depending on the film chosen – you will need access to Netflix or Amazon to view the film!
Here is how we are planning the evening:
Faith and Film will have the same time frame as normal.
We will join together on zoom (see access below) from 6:30 to about 6:45 to say hello, get connected to each other, and hear from the leaders with their invitation to the film.
Then we will begin watching the film (via our own Netflix access). So we will all be watching together, just in separate rooms ;-).
When the film is finished, we will take a 3 minute break before returning to zoom for the discussion!
As always, Anna and Chad will lead the discussion and Rev. Wendy will “Host” the meeting, managing the zoom room.
We hope you will give it a try. We are finding that we need each other now more than ever – and sharing our experience of the film will ground us in the community we share at Faith and Film; while honoring our need for social distancing.

This collection of films will deconstruct and frame an understanding of the inherent power structures in America and the effects this debilitating system has on communities and people of color. Please join us in listening, understanding, and acting in dismantling what racism is in our community.

ABOUT THE FILM
On the hottest day of the year on a street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, everyone’s hate and bigotry smolders and builds until it explodes into violence.
Still essential 30 years later!
“Do the Right Thing is so much larger than its Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn setting. That small slice of street acts as a microcosm for the entire racial system in America-one that is still at work and even more prevalent today.”
“Smart, vibrant, and urgent without being didactic, Do the Right Thing is one of Spike Lee’s most fully realized efforts — and one of the most important films of the 1980s.”

ABOUT THE FILM
An investigation into what happened to political activist Sandra Bland, who died while in police custody.
“[It] works on multiple levels: as a quest for truth set in the real world, a portrait of a burgeoning civil rights activist cut down in her prime, and as a snapshot of the country at a time of highly volatile racial tensions.”
“More than anything, the value in Say Her Name lies in its refusal to allow Bland to be silenced, even in death.”

ABOUT THE FILM
The lives of four black students at an Ivy League college.
“It’s true that satire is the perfect weapon of reason, and Justin Simien deploys it with resourcefulness, cool assurance and eagle-eyed aim.“
“Here’s a film that refreshingly acknowledges various elephants in cinema’s crowded living room: racism, the interracial sex taboo and class war.”
