Not a fan of church music?

Then you’ve never been to Sanctuary’s Music for the Soul Coffeehouse!

Recognizing music as a vital center of human spirituality, we periodically invite local musicians to perform a live show in our worship space. After the performance, we hold a Q&A session with the artist and ask them to speak to spiritual dimensions of their music.

We also center one of our Sunday Circle gatherings around music, reflecting on the spirituality and sacredness of music.

Artist Statement:

Color, light, energy and movement all come to mind when thinking about why I create art. It is a non verbal and kinesthetic experience that is difficult to apply words to. I always have ideas, I always have paintings in my head and body that want to come out. The desire to create and paint is there everyday. Finding the time is not always easy but I am never at a loss for ideas.

I simply love paint. I love mixing it, squishing it with my brush, challenging myself to come up with a new color combination and applying it to the canvas surface. I find it mesmerizing. It feeds my soul when I paint.

There are two things that I know for sure- I’m here on this planet to raise two children to be happy and healthy adults and I am here to create art. Here to paint, draw and sculpt. I’m here to make beauty with my art as well as ask questions, make inquiries, and challenge the way color was previously placed together. I have many desires with my art:

I want my art to bring joy to the viewer.

I want it to show beauty in a new way.

I want my creations to be like no other.

I want my hands to create something so original and unique.

I want to fill people’s soul with beauty through color, form and light.

When I complete a painting it feels so gratifying to bring something to life that did not exist before with my own two hands.

The Celebration of a Lifetime | Mortality at the Movies
Oct 18 @ 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Reservations Recommended: Text UCCFILM to 41444 or  igfn.us/form/MQcEQg

This month’s film is a Disney/Pixar “Celebration of a Lifetime” and has a 97% Tomatometer!!

The second of four films in our “Mortality at the Movies” Series (Sept – Dec); contemporary films that explore the value of life through the vantage point of death. Thought-provoking and often funny, these films remind us that while dying is a part of life, it need not keep us from living well.

The film’s rich visual pleasures are matched by a thoughtful narrative that takes a family-friendly — and deeply affecting — approach to questions of culture, family, life, and death.

Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, a boy dreams of becoming an accomplished musician. Desperate to prove his talent, he finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead where along with a charming trickster he meets there, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story!

Reviews:

“Of every Pixar film that deals with family, memory, and loss, ask, “Is there sufficient reason for the tears that will inevitably run down my face by the end?” Yes, thanks in no small part to the ingenious use of the song…

“Funny, irreverent and eye-popping. It will also make you want to cry at least once but possibly as many as three times.”

“an extravagant tale of culture and ambition that’s exemplary in all aspects: sights, sound and story. The film touts its vibrant layout, rhythmic vibes and overall heartfelt tone that hits home deeply and more uniquely…”
