This Sunday’s Theme
what are we discussing?
I Love Jesus But Hate (Some) Church Leaders
The truth is, most every time someone has been hurt by the church (and let’s face it, over the course of three millennia that has happened – a lot!) it has been because some church “leader” has fallen prey to some form of ego, sex, money, or power. It started at the beginning and has been causing folk to run from the church since then! In 1 Timothy 3 Paul emphasizes leadership and the well-ordering of the church as the “pillar and buttress of the truth.” So why is it so hard for church folk to be servants that build-up God’s Body and a source of strength for Jesus’ followers?

Black Lives Matter Film Series
With the current social conditions present in both local and global perspectives, it is essential now to educate ourselves and act deliberately to be anti-racist. Sanctuary UCC is partnering with Hillside Community Church to bring you the Black Lives Matter Film Series.
This collection of films will deconstruct and frame an understanding of the inherent power structures in America and the effects this debilitating system has on communities and people of color. Please join us in listening, understanding, and acting in dismantling what racism is in our community.
ABOUT THE FILM
The lives of four black students at an Ivy League college.
“It’s true that satire is the perfect weapon of reason, and Justin Simien deploys it with resourcefulness, cool assurance and eagle-eyed aim.“
“Here’s a film that refreshingly acknowledges various elephants in cinema’s crowded living room: racism, the interracial sex taboo and class war.”
