While some churches shun pop culture, Sanctuary UCC believes it provides us with amazing opportunities to reflect on who we are and what matters to us most. In our faith and film series, we invite our community together to reflect on recent films through the lens of spirituality.

Each month, we show a new hi-def film on our large movie screen. We offer comfortable seating and light snacks, followed by a lively discussion led by our brilliant film buffs and theologians, Anna and Chad Kidd.

BYO beer, wine, and soda. A free will offering will be collected after the film – please help support this vital ministry!

“Tough Guise 2: Violence, Manhood and American Culture” @ To Be Announced
Jul 22 @ 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Pioneering anti-violence educator and cultural theorist Jackson Katz argues that the ongoing epidemic of men’s violence in America is rooted in our inability as a society to move beyond outmoded ideals of manhood. In a sweeping analysis that cuts across racial, ethnic, and class lines, Katz examines mass shootings, day-to-day gun violence, violence against women, bullying, gay-bashing, and American militarism against the backdrop of a culture that has normalized violent and regressive forms of masculinity in the face of challenges to traditional male power and authority.

Second in a four film series.”Violence, An American Dis-Ease : How Do We Treat It?” Join your neighbors in the screening and discussion of (4) films which will consider the American Disease of violence. The films will take us on a journey through the causes and conditions of some of America’s dis-ease including the gun debate, toxic masculinity, the impact of pornography on our sexuality and the ease with which we use violence towards those who are different.

Co-Sponsored by Sanctuary UCC, Medford Film Collaborative, Tufts Community Relations – with support from a Local Arts Council grant from the Medford Arts Council.
