This month, our grade 7/8 OWL (Our Whole Lives) program participants had the extraordinary privilege of learning from six remarkable community members who graciously served as panelists in our curriculum’s core experience. Spanning four generations and a diverse range of LGBTQ+ identities and experiences, the panel – including two of our own members – shared their stories, challenges, joys, and wisdom with 17 bright and curious youth. The hope and energy in the room were nothing short of transformative.

We are deeply grateful to the panelists for their vulnerability, authenticity, and courage. The stories they shared were not only a gift to the youth but also created a profound connection among themselves as they reflected on their journeys. Their presence and insight helped to foster understanding, acceptance, and compassion in a tangible and inspiring way.

The OWL program is grounded in the belief that honest and accurate information about sexuality changes lives. It dismantles stereotypes, builds self-acceptance, fosters healthy relationships, and empowers individuals to make thoughtful decisions. This panel was a shining example of those principles in action. By sharing their lived experiences, the panelists brought to life the values of inclusivity and authenticity that OWL seeks to instill.

The impact of their stories will resonate far beyond the session, as the youth carry forward the lessons of self-discovery, empathy, and allyship. We are particularly moved by how the panelists also modeled the beauty of intergenerational dialogue and the strength found in community and connection.

To the panelists: thank you for being a part of this life-changing experience. Your openness and generosity have left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of these young people, equipping them with tools to navigate their own journeys with courage and compassion.

To our OWL families and youth: thank you for embracing this opportunity with open hearts and curious minds. This program thrives because of your commitment to learning, growing, and building a more just and loving world.

Together, we are creating spaces where understanding and love can flourish—a foundation that will serve these youth, and indeed all of us, for years to come.
