ABOUT AM2PM

👋 Hey middle and high schoolers! Looking for a summer program that combines community service, leadership development, and fun? Look no further! 💪

With AM2PM, you’ll have the chance to work alongside experienced mentors who will help you develop your own leadership and life skills while making a real impact in your community. From serving meals to those in need to learning about systemic issues that affect our world, you’ll gain valuable experience and knowledge that will equip you to make a meaningful difference in your classroom, community, and the world. 🌍

Plus, high schoolers will earn all of the community service hours needed for graduation (60 hours, anyone?). Selected youth will also have the opportunity for additional leadership training (college application booster!) to become a paid peer mentor. It’s a win-win! 😎

So what are you waiting for? Join us this summer and discover just how much you’re capable of achieving. 💫 #am2pm #leadershipdevelopment #communityservice #makeadifference #youthempowerment  #communityconnection

PROGRAM FAQ

Why is this program called "AM2PM"?

Sanctuary UCC has been running this program for close to 10 years. In its original iteration, students were engaged in acts of community service from morning till night (a.m. to p.m. – get it?) for an entire week. Over the years the program has evolved to include leadership development and time for reflection to equip students to not just serve their communities but to solve problems that their communities face.

When and where does AM2PM take place?

The 2024 AM2PM Program for both Middle School Students and High School Peer Mentors spans 10 days and is planned for:

  • Sunday, June 30; Kickoff; 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
  • Monday, July 01: 9 am to 4 pm
  • Tuesday, July 2: 9 am to 4 pm
  • Wed, July 3 – Sun, July 7 – OFF
  • Monday, July 8: 9 am to 4 pm
  • Tuesday, July 9: 9 am to 4 pm
  • Wednesday, July 10: 9 am to 4 pm
  • Thursday, July 11: 9 am to 4 pm
  • Friday, July 12: 9 am to 4 pm
  • Saturday, July 13: 9 am to 4 pm
  • Sun, July 14; Closing & Celebration; 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
High School youth who apply and are accepted as am2pm Peer Mentors will be required to participate in approximately 15 – 20 hours of training and practical experience. These sessions will be held during afterschool, evening, and weekend hours from May through June, prior to the start of the program.

Hillside Community Church (144 North Street in Medford) is our base of operations. While we travel to a lot of different service and learning sites, students will be dropped off and picked up there.

Who is eligible to participate in AM2PM?

Rising 6th-graders through 12th-graders are eligible to participate in the am2pm Community Service and Leadership Development Program.

Rising 10th-graders through college freshmen are eligible to participate in our High School Peer Mentor Program.

While our program is based in Medford, MA, it is open to students from throughout the Commonwealth.

Explain more about the peer mentor aspect of the program...

High School youth who complete the Peer Mentor Preparation and Training Program will have the opportunity to serve as a peer mentor during the am2pm program. Peer mentors assist AM2PM staff as they guide program participants through various community service projects and leadership development programs. For their efforts, peer mentors will receive a stipend of $500.

How much does AM2PM cost?

To be accessible to all students, the cost of AM2PM depends on your ability to pay. We offer full pay, partial pay, and scholarship options.

The full pay option is $750 per student (This amount covers the cost to operate the program).

Our partial pay option allows you to pay as much as can.

If you are income-eligible (see this chart), our scholarship option can cover the full cost of the AM2PM program.

Why is a church running this program?

Serving our neighbors and making the world a better place is the heart of what we do as a church. Whether you are a person of faith or no faith at all, if you want to join us in this work, we’re glad to have you with us!
