You know that time when Jesus was asked about who is the greatest? His response to that question was as counter-cultural as – well – all of his responses.

He told us that to be great we should become lowly and be like little children. Now – as Rev. Tom observed – that’s a little weird; because babies – are horribly self-absorbed, they don’t clean up after themselves, and they have lousy judgment. In fact, babies don’t discriminate at all. Unlike many adults – they don’t divide people based on a capitalistic view of worthiness… they just love.

And when we are caring for a baby – don’t we do the same? Our criteria for feeding, changing, and loving a baby has nothing to do with their virtue or work ethic or what they can give back to us or to society… it only has to do with their need.

The more they need, the more we give – even when it hurts.

This, my friends, is the revolutionary nature of Love.

Love gives to a person’s humanity not their deserving.

Love gives extravagantly when it has the power to help.

Love gives based on need not worth.

And that is the very definition of grace.

Beloved, as Rev. Tom encouraged in the sermon linked below – When we see need let us choose to be counted amongst the greatest.

Join us this Sunday for worship onsite or online for another sermon on #Adulting.

This week I will give you access to a secret free app for connecting our “Smart Stuff” – because everybody needs connection, a little sanctuary, and a place to live out love like a ‘little’.

See you soon.
