This past Sunday we read Luke’s version of the story about an unnamed, unwelcome woman, known only as a sinner – who bathes and anoints Jesus’ feet with her tears, her hair, her kisses, and her ointment. She comes to Jesus in an act of total contrition – reflecting the pain of a hundred bad decisions and a true desire to start over.

Shocked, dismayed, judging without knowing – the religious leaders literally recoil from her.  But Jesus welcomes all of her. He welcomes her past, her choices, her sadness, her sorrow, and her penitence. And he loves her in her need. And then – he says the unthinkable – that she is forgiven, and that she should go in peace. Grace upon grace.

This is Jesus’s message – no matter what… your “sin”, your sorrow, and your human-ness it is all forgiven because God is in the Grace business. Grace is who God is.

Grace is where our loving God starts with us. Amazing stuff this Grace from God. If we are willing – to receive it – this grace; then, we can turn it around and look at each other with the same lens; grace upon grace. That is the miracle of God’s loving and amazing grace.

Beloved – there is a Penitent Woman in All of Us.

Did you know that no matter what people say about you, no matter how others judge you no matter how broken and embattled you are that in God’s eyes, you are forgiven? Grace upon grace.

Check out last week’s sermon at the link below – guess what, it’s about grace.

And join us this Sunday at 10:30, because everybody needs a little sanctuary.
